Boat Insurance
Boat Insurance
Like Automobile Insurance, Boat Insurance is intended to repair or replace
your watercraft if it is accidentally damaged or destroyed. The term
watercraft includes: antique and classic boats, high performance boats
houseboats, and jet skis.
A boat policy covers the boat itself and it pays for your defense in the
event that you are sued by someone else due to damage or injury caused by
your boat.
If your boat is damaged because of a collision, fire, theft, windstorm,
lightning or vandalism you can rest assured knowing that the Physical Damage
Section of your insurance policy will cover the cost of the damage. The
deductible is calculated as a percentage of your coverage.
The Liability Section of the Boat Policy provides protection if you are
legally responsible for damages to property or injury to someone other than
yourself or a family member while operating the watercraft.
A good boat policy provides Personal Effects Coverage for items you bring
aboard. Items that aren’t essential to the normal operation of the boat but
help make the boating experience pleasurable include; portable TV’s,
cellular phones, stereos, radios, cameras, etc.
The Medical Payments section of the policy provides protection for medical,
ambulance, and hospital costs if someone is injured while in, upon,
boarding, or leaving your boat.
The Uninsured Boat Owners Coverage section provides coverage for injuries
caused by a hit-and-run accident, or an accident with an uninsured boater.
Boat Policies also provide Commercial Towing and Assistance if your boat
breaks down at sea and need a tow to port.
Insurance is designed to protect your personal assets, both at home and
abroad. The limits that you select on your boat policy should be based on
your lifestyle in addition to the value of the boat.
